Sunspots
Sunspots explores intensity, saturation, and contrast through concentric color fields inspired by moments of heightened light. The piece draws from the visual phenomenon of sunspots themselves, areas of concentrated energy that appear brighter, darker, or more vivid against their surroundings.
Bold rings of crimson, hot pink, warm orange, pale aqua, and soft white create a sense of heat and movement contained within a circular form. The palette feels charged and radiant, balancing brightness with depth and suggesting the push and pull between calm surfaces and underlying intensity.
The work is hand painted on a natural wood slice, allowing the organic grain and irregular edge to remain visible. The precision of the painted rings contrasts with the natural variation of the wood, creating a composition that feels both deliberate and alive.
Sunspots functions as a focused, standalone work centered on color, rhythm, and visual energy. It is well suited for interiors that welcome bold palettes, strong graphic structure, and artwork that feels vibrant, modern, and materially grounded.
This piece is 14"X12.5"X.75".
